Dell Streak 7

Unlike the original Dell Streak, Dell Streak 7 is a more reliable and useful tablet. It provides all of the activities that you would expect from a tablet pc. With this tablet you can effectively read e-books, watch movies, internet browsing and do so much more. The Dell 7 has brought additional features which were not available in its predecessor, the much smaller Dell Streak 5.

This tablet comes with a powerful 1GHz dual-core Tegra T20 processor, a 5 megapixel lens rear camera whcih provides the ability to record HD video, 1.3 megapixels front camera, and 16GB hard drive. Its operating system is easy to use, it currently runs on the Android 2.2 Operating System with Dell Stage UI. Nevertheless, Dell is looking to upgrade its OS to Honeycomb in the near future.

Dell wishes to keep the design of its tablets all similar. However, Streak 7 poses some slight difference from the rest in that it comes with tapered sides which are rigid and plastic. It also comes with a gorilla glass display. The Dell tablet also comes with a 7 inch screen, making it smaller in size than most tablets such as the iPad or Samsung Galaxy. The smaller screen makes it easier to hold and one handed viewing is also simple. The Dell Streak 7 is definitely lighter and well built.

The Dell Streak 7 provides compatibility for both SIM card slots and a 32 GB SD card. It also provides input for headphones and a microphone. Unfortunately this tablet has no HDMI port but offers USB capability.
You will always feel satisfied when reading, browsing, viewing photos, watching video, and so on with Streak 7 due to its 800 x 400 resolution display.

The Dell Streak 7′s main drawback is its battery life. With only 4 hours, we were a little disappointed with the power time this tablet provided. For us the two positives of the Streak 7 are the dual core processor which responds to all applications very quickly and also the ability to connect to the 4G network. 4G allows its users to carry out mobile downloading at extremely high speeds, making it cutting edge technology.

The truth is that Apple iPad 2 has been the market leader for a while. However, Samsung has just emerged with its new Samsung Galaxy 10.1 tablet. This move by Samsung has made Apple sit up and take note as their competitors have produced a tablet pc which many consider to be superior to the famous iPad. But is the Galaxy really better? Comparing the designs of the two tablets, you will find out that the Samsung Galaxy 10.1 is the one of the world’s thinnest tablets in the current market. It is also thinner than the Apple iPad 2. Samsung Galaxy presents a more user-friendly lightweight design than the Apple iPad 2, since it is easier to handle for longer periods as compared to its counterpart. On the other hand, the iPad 2 works really well use in landscape layouts.

The two tablets range provide all the multipedia capabilities that you would expect from the top of the range slates. Samsung Galaxy 10.1 is the best choice for everyday usage like handling multiple applications and storing media. Regarding the operating systems, you will find out that the Galaxy also has the superior computing performance performance as compared to Samsung Galaxy 10.1. The iPad 2 has a single speaker located on its back corner, while the Galaxy Tab 10.1 provides stereo support with its left and right speakers giving the desirable output. A1CS X220 Superpad Android 2.2

From the budget tablets available on the internet, the best selling has to be the A1CS X220 also known as the Superpad in the USA. This is purely based on its reviews on the Amazon website. A large number of people have raved about the Superpad purely based on its capabilities and value for money in comparison to expensive tablets like the Apple Ipad 2.

The Superpad comes built on the Android 2.2 operating system and provides access to the Android market which means that anything you feel it requires is easily downloadable. The tablet comes with a large amount of software as standard but anything you feel is missing from your needs and wants can be easily downloaded at the touch of a button.superpad

The A1CS X220 has a 10.2 inch screen and this version has improved touchscreen capabilities over its predecessors. The 1024×600 HD viewing display makes video and games look fantastic. The tablet also comes with a stylus for improved navigation.

View The A1CS X220 Superpad Tablet 10.2″ ANDROID 2.2, WIFI, MIFI, HDMI, 1080P, GPS With Cam

The Superpad is powered by an ARM 11, 1GHz processor coupled with 512MB DDR 2 memory. Although the memory might seem lower than the 1GHz available in the more well known models, it’s important to know that Android devices use their memory more efficiently than other operating systems like Windows or Apple.

The A1CS X220 comes in built with 4GB hard drive, 1GB is taken up by the Android OS so we would advise taking advantage of the extendable 32GB capability and getting a 32GB Micro SD card. On top of this there are 2 x 2.0 USB ports, a HDMI port, an Ethernet port and 1 Micro SD Card reader.

This tablet comes with everything you want or need so it’s clear to see why the demand for this tablet is so high on Amazon. The price is the deal breaker, a third of the price of an iPad.

The last thing to mention is the customer service provided by A1CS, This alone has prompted Amazon users to review the excellent tablet. Quick to respond to any enquiry and fast to change any faulty chargers or any of the extras. If you are looking for an affordable gift for a friend or loved one we would highly recommend this device. The best tablet PC for a price that can only be described as a steal.

Finding The Best Tablet PC

You’ve finally opted to purchase a tablet PC for yourself, but you don’t have any idea on what to look for when deciding which one to get. There are a few things that you should take note of before making that purchase. Here are some useful tips on things to consider when finding the best tablet PC.

First is the display size. Sizes of tablet PCs are usually around one foot and the screen display ranges from about 8 to 10 inches. The ideal size is between 6 to 9 inches, as anything smaller than that could make it difficult to see text or watch videos. Aside from the size, it is also important to consider the screen’s durability. A “gorilla display” is a non-scratchable surface which guarantees the display screen to be completely scratch-proof.

Another point to consider is the tablet PC’s weight. Tablet PCs are basically a mobile PC. It should be light and easy to carry. It is important to make sure that you are comfortable in carrying your slate around and putting it inside your handbag or backpack.

Next is storage or hard drive size. Most tablet PCs have 16 GB to 64 GB hard drive size, and some still have the option to expand with an external memory card such as a micro DS card (maximum storage capacity currently is 32 GB). The ideal storage space would depend on how the user uses their device — whether they will store a lot of audio tracks or movies, or just keep photos and some documents. Just to give an idea, a full-length movie’s size ranges between 700 MB to 1.5 GB, depending on the quality. An audio track ranges from 8 MB to 10 MB.

Another point to consider is connectivity. It is important that the device can support Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity. It is also important to check whether the tablet supports a 3G connection as not all tablet PCs offer such a feature. 3G allows you to connect to the internet via a mobile phone network. Most tablet PCs come with a USB 2.0 port, providing easier connectivity with other devices such as printers, cameras and even external storage devices. It would also be useful if the table can connect to other devices such as computers, mobile phones, television sets and the like especially when sharing photos or videos.

Another important feature to consider is the processing power. If you wish to play high-definition games or applications, your tablet PC should at least have a 1 ghz dual core processor to experience superior gameplay. This feature is essential for the latest features such as multi-tasking and personal hotspot. In fact, for iPad users, there are applications in the Apple App Store that would only allow downloads for the iPad 2 and not the iPad users.

The next thing to look for before purchasing a tablet PC is the operating system. Different operating systems boast different features, for instance Android’s open-source system which allows users to use, study, change and even improve the design as its source code it available to all. For the Apple operating system, higher versions feature multi-tasking, airprint, and personal hotspot.

Lastly, it is important to consider the battery life especially if you are going to use it heavily. The mAh rating in the tablet can provide a concrete idea on how much its battery life is. Standard ratings range from 6000 to 7500 mAh ratings. This should be enough for a day’s usage if you are browsing the net. Playing games on the tablet can drain the battery faster. It is always best to keep the charger with you.

Technology is ever changing and more and more advancements are incorporated to these devices. And having said that, each tablet will also have its ‘bugs’ which will be eliminated overtime. Thus, newer models will be released, not making the selection process any easier. Truly, there are a lot of things to consider when purchasing a tablet PC. It is best to do your research first and read consumer reviews about the device before making that purchase.

Packard Bell Liberty

Since Packard Bell became a subsidiary company of Acer, it was clear that much of their technology would be closely related and very similar. The Liberty tablet is almost the same as Acer’s Iconia A500. With almost identical specification, the only real difference is in the design and we think the Liberty is the best tablet pc of the two.

The tablet comes in a beautiful red finish with metallic chrome strips around the edges. The corners are more round than the Acer, this makes holding this tablet a much easier task.

The Packard Bell Liberty comes packed with a Dual Core Nvidia Tegra 2, 1GHz processor and 1GB DDR2 RAM. The graphics are powered by a GeForce chip and multiple files can be stored on the 16GB hard drive. A 32GB version is expected to be released soon as well as a 3G version.

best tablet pc

The screen on the Liberty is 10.1 inches with 1280×800 resolution. The display itself comes with a glossy finish which looks superb but can sometimes reflect light if being used by more than one person at a time. Views on the screen are nice and bright, while we were very impressed with the look of colours on the display. Movies and images were extremely clear as well, on the same level of its best tablet pc competition.

The tablet comes with an inbuilt 5MP rear camera and a 2MP front facing one for video calls. Other features include USB input, Micro SD and a micro HDMI port allowing you to connect your Packard Bell Liberty to your television. There is also a connector port allowing docks or keyboards to be compatible.

View The Packard Bell Liberty 16GB Tablet

The Packard Bell Liberty comes with the Android Honeycomb 3.0 OS as standard, but there is now an upgrade to 3.2. This helps to make the tablet more stable, decreasing lag and allowing better use of the multi application functionality. The Android market comes with a plethora of apps, so finding the latest games and applications is simple.

Internet usage is extremely fluid and using the Liberty is very responsive in all applications. The inbuilt speakers provide good sound, up there with the best on the market.

Packard Bell claim a 10 hour battery life but in reality this is closer to 8 hours. Nevertheless, movie and video usage doesn’t drain the battery as fast as other tablets.

Overall the Packard Bell Liberty puts in a good effort for the best tablet PC title. The tablet comes with an excellent and unique finish and all the minimums you would expect from a top tablet. There aren’t any major negatives and this is definitely a tablet we would recommend, but it just falls slightly short when in comparison to the Asus Transformer or Samsung Galaxy 10.1.

HP TouchPad

The HP TouchPad is Hewlett Packard’s first contender for the best tablet PC title. The TouchPad is the first tablet to be built on the WebOS 3.0 Mobile operating system. This is based on the Linux OS which became a hit through Palm’s Pre, Veer and Pixi phones. HP bought out Palm and have produced this enhanced version especially for their new tablet. The main feature of this operating system is its multi-tasking capabilities which allows windows or “cards” to be added to form a “stack”. The cards can then be shuffled through easily or thrown into the garbage once they are discarded. This added to its cloud capabilities make it an excellent business tablet PC.

The HP TouchPad is 9.7 inches in size and is fuelled by a 1.2 dual-core Snapdragon processor. The tablet comes with 1GB in built RAM and there are 16GB and 32GB versions available. The Touchpad itself weighs 1.65 pounds (750 grams) and proves to be heavier than the Apple iPad 2, Motorola Xoom and the Samsung Galaxy 10.1. The rear of the tablet is heavy plastic, glossy and susceptible to picking up fingerprint marks. There is also a hollow feeling when holding the tablet making it lacking in the durable and solid feeling that so many of its competitors possess.

best tablet pc

The front of the TouchPad has a sleek, smart design and the 1024×768 display looks similar to the iPad 2. It even has a button on the front which reverts you back to the home screen like the Apple tablets. The screen is made using the strong Gorilla Glass, specifically designed for hard wearing. The display proves to be bright with a nice viewing angle and compensates well for viewing by more than one person.

The HP TouchPad comes with inbuilt support for Adobe Flash as well as a USB connector for charging and attaching to your laptop. The slate also comes with HP’s Touchstone wireless charger as well as Dr Dre’s Beats speakers. The sound quality from this tablet really is the best we have heard on any the standard being much like HP’s laptops and desktop machines.

View the HP TouchPad 9.7 inch Tablet PC

One glaring omission from the HP TouchPad is the absence of a rear camera, this tablet only has a front one. This is great for video calling but when it comes to taking photos, this tablet PC falls extremely short.

Performance wise, we were disappointed by the time the TouchPad took to start up but once it is running, applications open up nicely and the multi-tasking ability works extremely well. At times performance was slightly sluggish but we expect HP to iron out these issues with further updates.

The battery life is more than respectable running over 8 hours with heavy usage. There are also the capabilities for email, calendar, Facebook, Twitter, printing, and Skype video calling. The on screen keyboard is also impressive with number keys visible on the top row – something missing from other tablets.

HP have provided their own App Catalog, and while the Apps out there are good, their number is extremely limited when compared with Apple and Android. HP will look to improve on this, but in our opinion this will never compete with its rivals.

If you are looking for the best business tablet, then we would definitely recommend the HP TouchPad over the Blackberry Playbook. It’s multi tasking facilities give it a user friendly approach and carrying out many tasks at once becomes effortless. If it’s apps you are looking for then you may want to give this tablet a wide berth and we were disappointed with the lack of a rear camera. With other tablets available on the market at a similar price, the HP TouchPad aims to be the best tablet PC but in our opinion falls slightly short.

The Toshiba Thrive is another new android tablet on the market looking to take the best tablet pc title. The tablet comes factory fitted with Android 3.1 and the in built specs make it an impressive all round tablet. The unique selling points about this machine are the abundance of in built slots – the Thrive comes with an SD card slot, Mini-USB, USB and HDMI ports providing compatibility to a host of other devices. With all this is a price point much lower than other tablets of similar quality.

The Thrive comes with a 1GHz Nvidia Tegra 2 processor like the new Samsung Galaxy 10.1 and other new Honeycomb tablets. It also has 1GB Ram, Wifi and Bluetooth connectivity. There is also a choice of 8GB, 16GB or 32GB versions available but the real difference is the SD card slot which is compatible with SDXC cards, the largest of which is a whopping 128GB.

The drawback to this tablet is the thickness. Despite being a decent looking slate, there have been a number of negative comments regarding the bulkiness of the tablet. The Toshiba Thrive comes in at 15mm, twice the thickness of the Apple iPad. This criticism is a little unfair though because when you actually use the tablet it doesn’t appear to be that bulky. The weight itself is 725g, a similar weight to the Motorola Xoom.

In comparison to other available tablets, this one is somewhat lacking in its design. The rubber on the rear does make it look a little cheaper than other tablet pcs and the lines on the back aren’t flattering. On the plus side, the rubber makes it very easy to hold and decreases the chances of unsightly fingerprints. The back can also be removed and replaced with one of 5 different colours – all available from Toshiba resellers.

Like the 10.1 Samsung Galaxy, the Thrive has a 10.1 inch display with resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels. The picture quality like the majority of tablets is of a great standard and it performed well for movie and video viewing. The sound quality is adequate but we felt it could have been a little better, at times sounding tinny and containing echos. We would say though that the sound is still better than that of the iPad 2.

The Toshiba Thrive also has 2 cameras, a 2MP one at the front and 5MP at the back, we successfully carried out a video call and also took some great photos with the main camera. Despite having the same camera spec as other tablets, the Thrive’s pictures really turned out well.

The battery life on this tablet is advertised by the manufacturer as being over 11 hours. In reality after heavy usage, the battery only managed around 7 hours. This was a little disappointing as most other slates provide a better return.

If you are the type who wants to make use of their tablet with many other devices (and we know the majority of you are) then the Toshiba Thrive really is the best tablet PC for you. The ability to connect your tablet easily to televisions, cameras, printers as well as all USB devices make this a winner. The real deal breaker is the SDXC compatibility allowing access to 128GB of storage. The tablet has been described as ugly but we beg to differ. After using this Android 3.1 tablet, you will grow to love it as we have.
