From the makers of the most secure mobile phone in the world, Blackberry, comes the most secure tablet in the world. The Blackberry Playbook is the entry tablet pc from the makers of the best business smartphone. At 7 inches, this is one of the most portable tablets available on the market and the makers, RIM, have come up with their own operating system especially for the Playbook.

The beauty of this machine is its ability to handle multiple running applications at the same time and quickly interchange between them. The excellent 1GHz dual-core processor and 1GB RAM helps to make everything seem effortless. The device comes with 16GB, 32GB and 64GB worth of hard drive storage.

The finish on the Blackberry Playbook is extremely stylish, rounded edges as well as a matte back. The famous Blackberry logo is visible on the front and back and the tablet itself is extremely solid and rigid.

There are controls for the volume and power on the thin edges as well as a connector for headphones, docking, micro HDMI and micro USB. The Playbook supports Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity but currently there is no ability to connect through 3G services. Blackberry have stated that this will change in the future.

The Blackberry Playbook comes with two cameras, 5MP at the back and 3MP at the front. This provides the ability to make video calls for business or pleasure. The speakers are also one of the best we’ve seen on a tablet, at the front of the device providing sound which is crisp and clear.

The main thing to realise about this best tablet PC is that it isn’t really standalone. It has been designed for people with a Blackberry smartphone, the calendar and email options are only available on with it is paired with a phone via Bluetooth. Blackberry have stated that this makes their devices extra secure, perfect for business users. If the tablet is lost or stolen, all data is still on the phone preventing info being compromised. In order to get the maximum benefit from this tablet PC, you really do need a phone to go with it. Having this device alone really won’t allow you access to all the features.

In comparison to Android and Apple, the Blackberry Apps available on the market are extremely limited. Blackberry has released 3,000 apps in comparison to the hundreds of thousands you can find for an Android or Apple device, There are talks of future compatibility of Android apps with the Blackberry, however at the moment this has not materialised. One feature that the Playbook has that the iPad doesn’t is Adobe Flash. This makes video viewing and flash gaming of the same standard as your home PC.

If there was an award for the best business tablet PC then the Blackberry Playbook would win this hands down. Solid build, good performance, competitive price and extremely secure, no other tablet can compete. The tablet is compatible with MS Office applications and runs Flash as opposed to its competitors.

If you don’t have a Blackberry phone however, there is no real reason to get this device. You won’t have access to email, contacts or calendar without one. (Although there is plan to have in built facilities this year via a sw update). The number of Apps are extremely low, overall we would only recommend this if you have a Blackberry phone as well.
